Coupon of the Day

Here's one of my current favorites.  I love gummi bears and with this coupon they should be around $.69 at WalMart right now. Prices may vary by region. If you have a grocery store that doubles, this could make for an even better price.

Call your providers and save!

When we think about saving money we often think about living more conservatively and putting money aside. Many times we fall off because we just can't live without that daily dose of Starbucks coffee to get us going and we certainly don't want to give up date night. There are other options! I'm not saying that cutting out at least a few White Chocolate Mochas is a bad thing and date night can occasionally be be replaced by game night but here is a money saving tip that doesn't require any cutting back and could save you $600 or more a year in less than 1 hour. Read more...

Money Saving Tip:

Maintain your car for fuel efficiency!
With gas prices as high as they are, fuel efficiency is a common topic. But not all of us can afford to run out and buy a hybrid. If you’re anything like me, you are guilty of not following some easy steps that could potentially save you big bucks at the pump. Luckily my husband is there to remind me. While I am no expert on cars, I talked to my husband and he shared the following tips with me:
  1. Change your air filters regularly. This doesn’t cost much and could boost your fuel efficiency significantly, if you drive an older car.
  2. Make sure your tires are at the recommended tire pressure.
  3. Drive the speed limit! Most cars get their optimal fuel efficiency between 55-65 mph. No lead foot…this doesn’t mean you should speed in a 40 mph zone ;)
  4. Get regular engine tune-ups and oil changes using the recommended oil for your car (check the owners’ manual).
If you are lucky enough to have the talent to do some of these things yourself, take a little time out of you day and do it. TIP: Many military bases have auto shops, where you can work on your own vehicles.

Cheers,

Nancy

Product Review: Nivea Lip Care

Nivea ® A Kiss of Milk and Honey Soothing Lip Care promises to contain a soothing formula that boosts your lips’ natural defenses, seal in moisture and last a long time. It contains honey & milk proteins and is preservative free.
This is not just another lip care product. It has actually landed on my favorites list! With the winter in full swing and humidity levels low, chapped and dry lips are to be expected. This time of the year I am usually going through lip care products like a mad person, desperately looking for relief. With this in mind, I took advantage of a recent coupon offer for the Nivea ®product and was immediately impressed.

The product has a very pleasant scent to it, just a slight hint of milk and honey. Since I don’t want to be reminded all day that I’m wearing a lip care product, I appreciate the fact that it has absolutely no flavor. It also does not leave you with that caked-on lipstick feeling and has no color, leaving your lips looking and feeling natural. While the product costs just slightly more than Chapstick®, it is well worth the extra cents.
Cheers,

Nancy

Welcome to Stretch that LES

Being in the military, we all know money can be tight. Saving money has a bad stigma attached to it and we often put it off, after all we've got enough on our plates with our day to day lives...who wants to give up on the items we reward ourselves with? What many don't know is that we can save without giving up on a thing...well, not much at least. I have been blessed to figure out some tricks, not the least of which is couponing, with which I can save large amounts of money. Best of all, it can be fun and challenging. I have been asked how I do it and rather than explaining it to each person, I have decided to start this blog to share these ideas with other military and non-military families. I hope to provide you with constant ideas to maximize your savings while not sacrificing too much, after all, if saving money is too difficult we are more likely to throw in the towel.

How did I get started? I have always been the type of person that constantly looks for ways to make and save money. I've tried it all...Mary Kay, eBay...none of it lasted. Having watched some of my family members retire, with just a couple of thousand dollars in their savings account I knew that I did not want to be in that situation. I am blessed to have parents that are very frugal, but still enjoy life. I decided to take some of their ideas and spin them into my own. My mother is a coupon user. What I mean with that is that she uses coupons when she comes across them. I started using them here and there. I had heard about people that get items completely free and decided to research this a bit. Within 3 months I decreased my families monthly bills and grocery budget by nearly $600. It is possible! I hope to help you do the same.

I would like for this blog to be a resource for anyone wanting to save money and welcome any questions and ideas you might have. I might post some of them on the blog and certainly credit you for all contributions. Let's help each other out!

Take care,

sofun
